This 10 Days Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar itinerary is designed for travellers who want a balanced bush-and-beach journey without making the safari feel too rushed. The route begins in Arusha, travels through Tarangire National Park, continues into the Serengeti, explores the Ngorongoro Crater, and then ends with relaxing days on Zanzibar Island.
The mainland safari section focuses on three of northern Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife areas. Tarangire gives the journey a strong first safari experience with elephants, baobab landscapes and seasonal wildlife around the river. Serengeti adds open plains, big-cat country and classic East African safari atmosphere. Ngorongoro Crater brings a dramatic final wildlife day with a high concentration of animals in one of Tanzania’s most iconic landscapes.
After several days of early starts, game drives and road transfers, Zanzibar changes the rhythm of the trip. The beach stay gives guests time to rest, enjoy the ocean, explore optional island experiences and end the journey softly before flying home.
This itinerary is especially useful for couples, honeymooners, families and first-time visitors who do not want to choose between Tanzania wildlife and the Indian Ocean beach experience. It can be sold as a private safari and customized by accommodation level, travel season, lodge preference and beach style.
Watoto Wa Bingwa note: This draft needs final confirmation of accommodation names, exact routing, meal plans, domestic flight details and package price before publishing.

On this route
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be welcomed by a Watoto Wa Bingwa Safaris & Tours representative and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. This first day is intentionally easy, giving you time to rest after your flight, settle into Tanzania and prepare for the safari ahead.
Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the hotel, enjoy dinner, meet your safari representative or receive a short briefing about the route, timing, luggage, park days and expectations. Arusha is the natural starting point for northern Tanzania safaris because it connects easily with Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti.
The evening is free at leisure. Guests arriving early may choose to add an optional local experience, but for most travellers, this day is best kept relaxed before the safari begins.
After breakfast, your private safari begins as you depart Arusha and drive toward Tarangire National Park. The drive takes you through rural landscapes and into one of northern Tanzania’s most atmospheric safari areas.
Tarangire is famous for large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River, which attracts wildlife during the dry season. During your game drive, you may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, impala, warthogs, lions and many bird species. The park often feels quieter and more open than busier safari areas, making it a beautiful introduction to the wilderness.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch or lodge lunch depending on the final routing. In the afternoon, continue game viewing before heading to your accommodation for dinner and overnight. This day gives travellers a strong first wildlife experience without the pressure of a very long transfer.
After breakfast, depart toward Serengeti National Park. This is one of the longer travel days of the itinerary, but it is also one of the most exciting transitions because the landscape gradually changes as you move toward the legendary Serengeti plains.
Depending on the final route, you may pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before continuing toward Serengeti. As the road opens into wider plains, the feeling of the safari changes. This is where many travellers begin to understand why the Serengeti is one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations.
You will enjoy game viewing en route as you enter the park and continue toward Central Serengeti. The Seronera area is known for excellent year-round wildlife, permanent water sources and strong predator sightings. Arrive at your camp or lodge in time to relax, enjoy dinner and listen to the sounds of the wilderness.
Today is dedicated to exploring Central Serengeti. Your guide may recommend an early start because mornings are often rewarding for predator activity, cooler temperatures and soft light for photography.
Central Serengeti is one of Tanzania’s most reliable wildlife regions. Lions, leopards and cheetahs are often among the major highlights, while elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hippos, hyenas, jackals, warthogs and many antelope species can also be seen depending on the season and wildlife movement.
A full day in Serengeti gives your safari time to breathe. Instead of rushing from one destination to another, you can follow tracks, wait at sightings, explore river areas and enjoy the plains at a proper pace. Lunch may be served as a picnic in the park or at the lodge depending on the day’s plan.
After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive or game viewing en route as you leave Central Serengeti. This is another scenic safari travel day, with opportunities to see wildlife as you cross the plains and move back toward the Ngorongoro highlands.
Your guide will manage the pace carefully, balancing wildlife stops with the need to reach your lodge before evening. Depending on conditions and timing, you may pass through open plains, kopje areas, grasslands and highland scenery on the way.
Arrive in the Ngorongoro or Karatu area for dinner and overnight. This stop positions you well for the next day’s Ngorongoro Crater safari, while also giving guests a calmer evening after the Serengeti section.
After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The crater is one of Tanzania’s most famous wildlife destinations, known for dramatic scenery and a high concentration of animals within a compact natural amphitheatre.
During the crater game drive, you may see lions, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, elephants and, with luck, black rhino. The crater floor includes grassland, swamp, forest and lake areas, creating a very different safari feeling from the wide Serengeti plains.
After the crater experience, you will ascend and continue toward Arusha or the airport depending on the final flight arrangement. From there, continue to Zanzibar Island for the beach portion of the trip. On arrival in Zanzibar, you will be met and transferred to your beach hotel.
This is a transition day from wildlife to ocean. After several safari days, Zanzibar gives the itinerary a softer rhythm and time to recover.
Today is a relaxed beach day on Zanzibar Island. There are no early safari starts, no long road transfers and no fixed game-drive schedule. Guests can sleep in, enjoy breakfast slowly and spend the day by the beach or pool.
Optional activities may include a Stone Town tour, spice farm visit, sunset dhow cruise, snorkelling, diving, a Mnemba-area marine excursion or simply enjoying the hotel facilities. The best activity choice depends on the guest’s interests, hotel location and sea conditions.
For many travellers, this day is best kept simple. After several safari days, the beach stay should feel like recovery, not another rushed expedition.
Enjoy another full day at leisure on Zanzibar Island. Guests who want culture may explore Stone Town with its narrow streets, markets, historic buildings and rooftop restaurants. Ocean lovers may prefer snorkelling, diving or a boat excursion depending on the final package setup.
Couples and honeymooners may choose a romantic sunset experience, spa time or a private dinner. Families may prefer relaxed beach time and simple activities that do not make the day too tiring.
This flexible day allows the itinerary to suit different traveller styles. Some guests want activity; others want silence, sun and ocean views.
This is your final full day in Zanzibar. You may relax at the resort, enjoy the beach, take a slow walk along the coast or add one last optional experience before departure day.
Many travellers use this day for shopping, spa treatments, beach photography, seafood dinner, sunset drinks or simply doing nothing. Since tomorrow is departure day, it is better to avoid exhausting activities unless flight timing allows.
The final night in Zanzibar gives the journey a memorable ending after the wildlife intensity of Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your onward flight. Depending on your flight time, you may have a relaxed morning at the hotel before departure.
