This 8 Days Tanzania Safari is designed for travellers who want a complete northern Tanzania safari experience with enough time to enjoy the major wildlife destinations without making the journey feel rushed. The route combines Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, the Serengeti plains and the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater.
The itinerary works well for first-time visitors because it offers a balanced mix of landscapes: elephant country and baobab trees in Tarangire, forest and Rift Valley scenery around Lake Manyara, wide open wildlife plains in Serengeti and the dramatic enclosed ecosystem of Ngorongoro Crater.
With two nights in Central Serengeti, this safari gives travellers more time for big-cat viewing, photography and relaxed game drives compared with shorter itineraries. It is a strong website package for guests who want quality safari time but cannot commit to a longer 10 to 14 day itinerary.
Watoto Wa Bingwa note: This itinerary should be positioned as a strong all-round Tanzania safari for travellers who want Serengeti and Ngorongoro included, while still enjoying Tarangire and Lake Manyara on the same trip.
Start and finish your safari in Arusha, Tanzania’s gateway to the Northern Safari Circuit, offering convenient access to iconic national parks and a smooth beginning and end to your wildlife adventure.
Discover Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant herds, iconic baobab trees, and seasonal wildlife movements across its scenic savannah landscapes.
Enjoy Lake Manyara’s stunning Rift Valley scenery, lush forest habitats, and rich birdlife, with opportunities to spot flamingos, elephants, giraffes, and other fascinating wildlife.
Enjoy exciting game drives in search of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, hippos, and other iconic African wildlife in their natural habitats.
On this route
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be welcomed by your Watoto Wa Bingwa Safaris representative and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. This arrival day is designed to be easy and comfortable after your flight.
Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the hotel, enjoy dinner, meet your safari consultant or receive a short briefing about the journey ahead. Arusha is the main starting point for northern Tanzania safaris, making it a practical and comfortable place to begin your adventure.
The evening is at leisure. Rest well because the safari officially begins the next morning with your first drive into the wilderness.
After breakfast, you will meet your private driver-guide and depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park. The drive takes you through rural northern Tanzania landscapes before reaching one of the region’s most atmospheric safari parks.
Tarangire is especially known for large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River, which attracts wildlife during the dry season. During your game drive, you may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, antelope, lions and a wide variety of birdlife.
This park is a beautiful introduction to safari because it often feels quieter and more spacious than some of the busier headline destinations. After your game drive, continue to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Today you will visit Lake Manyara National Park or explore the Lake Manyara region, depending on season, routing and final accommodation choice. The park is located at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and offers a different safari atmosphere from Tarangire.
Lake Manyara is known for groundwater forest, open plains, lake scenery, birdlife, baboons, monkeys, giraffes, elephants and hippos. While wildlife sightings vary by season, the park is valuable because it adds habitat variety to the itinerary.
After your game drive, you will continue toward Karatu or the Ngorongoro highlands area. This region is cooler, greener and filled with farms, views and peaceful lodge settings. It also positions you well for the next day’s journey toward Serengeti.
After breakfast, depart toward Serengeti National Park. The journey may take you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before the landscape opens into the vast plains that make Serengeti one of Africa’s most famous safari destinations.
This is one of the most exciting travel days of the safari because the drive itself becomes part of the wildlife experience. Depending on timing, road conditions and wildlife movement, your guide may include game viewing en route as you enter Serengeti.
Central Serengeti is famous for excellent year-round wildlife, especially big cats. Lions, leopards and cheetahs are often high on guest wish lists here, along with elephants, giraffes, hyenas, buffalo, hippos and many plains animals. Arrive at your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight in the heart of the wilderness.
Today is dedicated to exploring Central Serengeti. Your guide may recommend an early start to make the most of cooler temperatures, morning light and predator activity. This is the kind of day where the safari slows down and allows proper time for wildlife tracking and photography.
The Seronera region of Central Serengeti is known for permanent water sources and reliable wildlife presence. Depending on the season, you may explore river valleys, open plains, kopjes and woodland areas while searching for big cats and other wildlife.
A packed lunch can be arranged so you can stay out longer and follow sightings without needing to rush back to camp. In the evening, return to your accommodation for dinner and another night surrounded by Serengeti sounds.
After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti before beginning the journey toward the Ngorongoro area. This is both a transfer day and a game-viewing day, as your guide will continue looking for wildlife while you travel through the park.
Leaving Serengeti can be emotional for many travellers because the plains often produce memorable sightings until the last moment. Your route may pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where landscapes shift from open plains to highland scenery.
Arrive in the Ngorongoro or Karatu area by evening. This overnight stop positions you well for tomorrow’s crater descent and gives you time to rest after the long journey from Serengeti.
Today you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The crater is one of Tanzania’s most iconic safari destinations, known for dramatic scenery and a high concentration of wildlife within a relatively compact area.
During the game drive, you may see lions, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, elephants and, with luck, black rhino. The crater floor includes grassland, swamp, forest and lake areas, creating a rich and varied wildlife experience.
After the crater tour, you will ascend the crater wall and continue to your lodge or return toward Arusha depending on the final routing selected by operations. This final safari evening is a good moment to reflect on the highlights of the journey.
After breakfast, begin the return journey to Arusha if you are not already staying there. Depending on your flight time, there may be time for a relaxed morning, a short town stop, souvenir shopping or lunch before your airport transfer.
You will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport, Arusha Airport or your next hotel. This marks the end of your 8 Days Tanzania Safari with Watoto Wa Bingwa Safaris & Tours.
Guests who want to extend the trip can add Zanzibar, a cultural experience, a Kilimanjaro day hike or extra nights in Serengeti depending on season and budget.
